The Patterns We Use

We’d like to share the patterns we use for the mean of transparency.

These patterns are designed to improve user experience while maintaining transparency and fairness.

We try to show you only the necessary information at first, while revealing more as needed. So we are hiding the complexity from you, reducing cognitive load and making the app easier to use.

We set the default options to the most privacy-friendly settings. This way, you can use the app without worrying about your privacy.

We also have disabled some autocompletion to force you to use a preferred option that would not have any impact for you, but could have a negative impact on our finance (E.g. E-mail over Phone number).

As we need to be financially profitable, we’ll provide your reminders to upgrade to a premium, but we’re lowering the frequency of these reminders to their minimum.

We are designing our app to respect your privacy. We are not tracking you, and we are not collecting any data that could be used to identify you.

We hope that this, and other articles, help you in that regard.

These patterns are not outright deceptive but can be manipulative.

We want to create a sense of urgency to help people join friends moods or moments faster and “Break the glass”.

We’re showing it by clearly displaying how many “places left” or “time left” to join them.

We are adapting the notification system to nudge you to use the app more often and join moods or moments of new users.

This is to help new users get in the communities easier, and feel less alone.

We are using gamification to make the app more engaging and fun by making elements jiggle or creating a sense of movement.

We do this because we are competing against other applications that overuse this technique, and we need to keep up to have a place in your subconscious.

We want to be the app you use when you don’t know what to do and want to have fun, because we believe you would feel better outside than behind your screen. (Or behind your screen with a good friend ;)

Although the objective of the app is to lower your smartphone use, and we are trying to lower the total notifications you receive by removing you from useless groups, we do use notifications to remind you to join your fellow friends.

The Investment Trap — Commitment Escalation

Section titled “The Investment Trap — Commitment Escalation”

We will try to make you feel like you have invested time in the app so you won’t be willing to leave it so easily.

This is the inheritance of social media and we won’t be able to change that, but we are trying to make it less addictive nevertheless.

We also believe that not all dark patterns are inherently negative, and we utilize them to encourage you to be more social and engaged with your friends.

The Phantom Win — False Sense of Progress

Section titled “The Phantom Win — False Sense of Progress”

We are trying to make you feel like you are making progress inside the app while creating elements.

The objective behind it is to give you the little nudge to publish that mood or moment, and give you a chance to go the f*k out.

This is the core of the app, we want you to feel like you are missing out on something if you are not using the app, because you could be missing moods and moments of your friends.

The reason behind it is that we believe you are missing out on something if you are not with your friends, and we want to help you to be with them.

Additionally, by using our app more frequently instead of others, you can help reduce your carbon footprint as we strive to optimize and clear our databases regularly.

It’s all over friends, what is it more to be said.
